Justice-Impacted Supports
CalAIM: California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal
This presentation highlights the CalAIM Justice-Involved Reentry Initiative, which supports justice-impacted individuals—including pregnant and postpartum people—as they transition from incarceration back into the community. Through coordinated pre-release services, Enhanced Care Management, and warm handoffs, Medi-Cal and Managed Care Plans ensure continuity of medical, behavioral, and social care. This effort reflects CalAIM’s broader goal of creating a more equitable, person-centered system.
Care First Community Investment Doula Program
This is a presentation on Los Angeles County’s Care First Community Investment Doula Program, which provides critical support, education, and advocacy for pregnant people in custody and after release. In this presentation, participants will review key policy updates, including AB 732, and explore ongoing challenges in implementation across systems.
Findings from an Exploratory Study of Reproductive Health Care in a San Diego County Women’s Jail
This presentation featured a research briefing from Evelyn McCoy of the Urban Institute on reproductive health care experiences among incarcerated women in a San Diego County jail. Drawing from qualitative interviews, the study explored access to services such as pregnancy testing, prenatal care, contraception, and postpartum support. Findings highlight the need for improved communication, expanded preventive care, and greater autonomy in health care decision-making. These insights help inform ongoing efforts to strengthen care for justice-impacted pregnant and parenting individuals.
Maternal Health for the Incarcerated: Where Justice Meets the Womb
This presentation with Janet Hughes (Policy Doula) provides a detailed update on ongoing efforts to advance maternal health policy, especially as it relates to justice-impacted individuals and birth equity in San Bernardino County. Key topics include identifying relevant navigation resources at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC), tracking maternal health legislation, and preparing messaging for the (then) upcoming San Bernardino County Town Hall.
