There are free resources available to families getting ready to or having recently delivered a child.  

Information is available via guides, toolkits and technology platforms and have been compiled here for easy access.

Resources for Black and African American Families

Irth – Birth without bias is a community-driven platform designed to inform and protect Black and brown women and birthing people, as well as a mechanism to
create transparency and public accountability in the medical system.

 

Additionally, Consumer tip sheets have been developed around topics of interest that relate specifically to Black and African American Families.

Pregnancy and Parenting Tips Text Messaging Service

The Bright by Text app can help support you during pregnancy and once your baby arrives by sharing tips on how to prepare for your infant as well as essential guidance in the early days – like how to soothe a crying baby – and continue to send brain-building tips, bonding activities, and much more as your child grows.

Information on Topics of Interest

Having a baby can be overwhelming.  As the family prepares for a healthy pregnancy and delivery, there are a number of things that can be helpful to know and understand. 

 

We have collected a number of papers, articles and helpful website resources on topics of interest that families can review in one easy to find location.

Resources for Black and African American Families

Irth (as in Birth, but we dropped the B for bias) helps Black and brown women and birthing people have a more safe and empowered pregnancy and parenting experience by allowing them to see how other parents of color, experienced care at a doctor or hospital. Irth Then turns those collective experiences into meaningful data to push for change within health systems.


Irth has established a resources such as A Mini-Manual to Pregnancy and Childbirth for Black People as well as the irthApp an app where people can find prenatal, birthing, postpartum and pediatric reviews of care from other Black and brown women.

The Maternal Health Network, in partnership with PEI and Black Infant Health, has established Consumer tip sheets that elevate issues of equity for a variety of topics and provide specific resources for Black and African American Families

The Bright by Text app can help support you during pregnancy and once your baby arrives by sharing tips on how to prepare for your infant as well as essential guidance in the early days – like how to soothe a crying baby – and continue to send brain-building tips, bonding activities, and much more as your child grows. 

Signing up is simple. We only ask for your child’s due date (which you can update with their date of birth once the baby arrives) and your zip code. That way, you’ll get messages timed to their exact age and information about events and resources near your home. We will never share your info! Bright by Text is completely free, but message and data rates may apply.
